Building an Email Sequence
You can create more than one recovery email. Each has its own timing, and a cart receives each email once. Together they form a sequence.
A sequence that works well
| Send after | Discount | Purpose | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1 hour | none | A gentle reminder. They may simply have been interrupted. |
| 2 | 24 hours | 5-10% Pro | A small incentive. |
| 3 | 3 days | 10-15% Pro | A last chance. |
Without Pro, keep the same rhythm and use the message itself: free shipping, a low-stock mention, or a reminder of your returns policy.
Tips for each email
- Subject. Be specific and short. "[first_name], you left items in your cart!" beats "Special offer".
- One clear link. Make
[cart_url]the obvious next step. - Escalate gently. Start friendly. Add urgency only in the later emails.
- Don't overdo it. Two or three emails is plenty.
- Start small with discounts. A discount in the first email teaches shoppers to abandon on purpose.
Remember the timing rules
Send after counts from when the shopper was last seen. A cart only receives an email if it was last seen at most a week longer ago than that time, and it never receives the same email twice. See who receives an email.
If you activate several emails at the same time, a cart that is already old enough for more than one of them can receive them in the same hourly run. To avoid that, activate your emails one at a time, and wait for the next hourly run before you activate the next one.
